Rolodex takes place over a
two-week period in SoHo, NYC in November, 1990.
It follows the interconnected stories of a motley crew of artists,
curators, critics,
and financiers who changed the art world and market forever. Although
the names
have been changed, the characters of Rolodex are very much based on real
people.
Centered around the loft of Althea Bridges, a host of young emerging
artists come together
to make a group art show. Forming alliances, rivalries, and romances the
bunch
become ripely entangled. The self-appointed “King of the Art World” Godd
motions to co-opt the
artists from the beloved but out-of-business Althea. Panicked, she calls
on close friend
John McBain who has recently begun raking in obscene amounts of money by
profiting
from the impending first Gulf War. Bidding wars over artworks and people
promptly ensue,
and single pieces by young living artists begin to sell for more money
than most
people see in their entire lives. |
